Our English teachers in Scarborough are at the heart of everything we do at EiS. With decades of combined experience in EFL teaching, exam preparation, and student support, our team is dedicated to helping every learner succeed.
DIRECTOR & PROPRIETOR
Mauro Beck
Based across Italy, Switzerland, Dubai and Thailand, Mauro is a passionate and emphatic leader with over 30 years experience in diverse Executive Management functions. Always dedicated to leading by example and helping individuals to realise their potential, Mauro has a track record of establishing and building successful companies. He speaks German, French, Italian, English and Thai, and defines himself overall as a human to whom learning is breathing and caring is a superpower.
PRINCIPAL / DIRECTOR OF STUDIES
Alison Drew
Alison is a DELTA-qualified teacher with 40 years of experience working in the EFL industry. She is a fluent Italian speaker who is passionate about hosting international students and helping to broaden their cultural horizons, dividing her time between Scarborough and Milan. She is a lifetime supporter of Barnsley football club and a devoted ferroequinologist (look it up!) and has decades of experience mentoring students through IELTS, TOEIC and Cambridge exams.
OPERATIONS DIRECTOR & ACTIVITY MANAGER
Sam Sherwood
Sam is a Scarborough native who loves hosting international visitors and showing them around his hometown. On top of teaching and organising activities for the school, Sam is responsible for increasing the global outreach of EiS. He holds a CELTA teaching qualification and a DELTM management qualification from English UK, and has taught English in Italy, Switzerland, Thailand, Argentina and Peru, including the coaching of business people and executives for CAE / BEC advanced exams. He is a fluent Italian speaker and is confusing himself by trying to learn Spanish at the same time.
ACCOMMODATION & WELFARE MANAGER
Margaret Hutchings
Having been a secondary school teacher for 25+ years, Mags is passionate about guarding the wellbeing of students visiting EiS, striving to ensure that every student has a positive experience both within the school and at the homes of our trusted homestay families. She holds Qualified Teacher Status and a level 3 safeguarding certificate, and never forgets a birthday.
TEACHER & GCSE TUTOR
Anna Patrick
Anna has worked with every major educational institution in the Scarborough area and her fun, speaking-based approach to learning ranks her consistently as one of the most popular teachers with our summer students. She holds a PGCE and CELTA certificate, and is already working as a freelance GCSE tutor (English Language, English Literature & Maths) and will expand this operation alongside EiS.
SUMMER TEACHER
Chrissie Sandaver
Chrissie is a qualified TESOL teacher with 18 years experience teaching English in Myanmar, Thailand, Qatar, Libya, Italy and in her home town of Scarborough. She is a specialist with lower level (A1 & A2) learners, but has also prepared students for IELTS and school examinations. Her main aim is to help students achieve their potential and to enjoy their journey to success.
SUMMER TEACHER
Marek Kendziora
Holding Master’s Degrees in both Didactics and English Philology, Marek excels in the teaching of English pronunciation. Having moved to the UK 21 years ago from his hometown of Bydgoszcz in Poland, he is one of the regular summer teachers who make up our extended EiS school family.
SUMMER TEACHER
Phil Edwards
Phil is a Trinity certified EFL teacher who has taught in China and Saudi Arabia and holds a Master’s degree in International Education and Development. He enjoys teaching English for the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, and, because he’s a lover of languages, speaking some Chinese and Arabic.
